Familiar Faces: When Friends Become Nemesis
Short Story (Episode 1)
You know one thing I love about Ghanaian salons?
You get to hear everything—the dating stories, the heartbreaks, the romantic confessions, the church girlies, and, of course, the baddies.
And hey—don’t forget the theft cases too.
Yes, among all these stories, there was one that caught my attention.
It wasn’t the usual gossip.
It was a love story—but not the kind we often imagine.
Not between lovers, but between two friends: Emma and Jay.
Two amazing friends with sharply contrasting characters.
Oh my God—Jay was loud.
And when I say loud, I mean louder than the megaphone at my old SHS.
Yet beneath all that noise was a kind heart. Jay had a heart of gold. Anyone could see how deeply she loved her friend Emma. But—oh, she had her flaws. She was quick-tempered, easily angered, and trust me, you didn’t want to know what she was capable of when he Wwtriggered.
Then there was Emma.
Soft-spoken. Reserved. Calm.
Nothing like Jay.
The first time I met Emma, I honestly wondered how she managed to match Jay’s energy. Their personalities were worlds apart, and I thought—surely, this would be a problem someday. But I guess I was wrong…
until I wasn’t.
I admired their friendship. It was beautiful watching them together—planning their next moves, gossiping about people, laughing like the world didn’t exist beyond the salon walls. And since I was just a mere hairdresser, my job was simple: do their hair. So I did—while quietly enjoying their conversations every time they came around.
Then one day…
I was in the washroom when I heard a loud noise.
Not the usual salon noise.
This one was different.
Sharp.
Violent.
Frightening.
My heart skipped.
What just happened?
…

To be continued.
