Netflix’s Ruth & Boaz is a gripping story of love, survival, and second chances. Told through the eyes of Naomi, the family matriarch, the film explores heartbreak, ambition, and the power of forgiveness.

Ruth’s Past and Tragedy
Ruth Moably, played by Serayah, had a difficult life. Abandoned at five, raised in foster care, and forced into a music career controlled by her ruthless manager Syrus, played by James Thomas, Ruth struggled to reclaim her independence. When she tried to leave, Syrus retaliated violently, orchestrating the deaths of her boyfriend Marlon, played by Chaundre Hall-Broomfield, and his father Eli, played by Gregory Alan Williams.
Grieving and terrified, Ruth escapes to Pegram, Tennessee, following Naomi despite the older woman’s distrust. Her goal is to protect Naomi while finding safety and a chance to rebuild her life.

A New Life in Tennessee
In Pegram, Ruth begins to heal. She helps repair Naomi’s old house, earns the respect of the locals, and takes a seasonal job at Azra Winery. Boaz, played by Tyler Lepley, the hardworking vineyard owner, notices her determination.
Ruth’s singing talent resurfaces after a karaoke night at a local bar. With the help of producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, she begins making music on her own terms, reconnecting with her passion and reclaiming her voice.
Love Sparks Amid Secrets
Ruth and Boaz’s romance grows slowly, tender and cautious. They share intimate moments, but Ruth hesitates to open her heart, haunted by Syrus’s crimes. Naomi encourages her to embrace happiness, reminding her that love and safety can coexist.
Danger Returns: Syrus Strikes

Syrus tracks Ruth to Tennessee, escalating threats that culminate in a fire at the winery. Ruth plans to flee again but confesses the truth to Naomi: Syrus killed Marlon and Eli. Their bond strengthens as they prepare for confrontation.
Boaz protects Ruth, and Naomi faces Syrus head-on, warning him that her family will not be hurt again. The police arrive, arresting Syrus and ending his reign of terror.
Healing, Triumph, and a Fresh Start
With the danger behind them, Ruth rebuilds her life and career. Boaz admits that love matters more than wealth or success. A rescued wine bottle from the fire wins Best in Show at a competition, renamed R&B for Ruth and Boaz.
Ruth & Boaz ends on a hopeful note: love and resilience can rise from even the darkest circumstances. Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds’ original song, performed by Serayah, ties Ruth’s rebirth to her musical journey.
